Kolperi Outback Filmmaking
Brief This brief required a logo with supporting typefaces and colour palette. The client requested two design options—an expected (safe) version and an unexpected version. The client also requested consideration for future logo animations. The nature of the business is connected to the Griffith Film School, where they take students out to Winton, Australia to film in the outback. They often have a film festival associated with the student excursion. For the expected version, the client requested the shape of an emu in the logo, as the word Kolperi means emu in the Guwa peoples language.
Expected Concept
The expected concept was more in line with the client’s initial ideas. The icon resembles a silhouette of an emu through a hypothetical camera lens, paired with a clean, slightly quirky—yet friendly—typeface. The colours of this brand reflect the physical landscape in Winton and complement the imagery well due to this. This expected brand concept became the chosen brand.
Unexpected Concept
This concept utilises bold colours and abstract letterforms. The main consideration when creating this concept was the request for logo animation consideration alongside the client’s comments “do something really unexpected, excite me!”, to which I thought—what better way to do that than vibrant colour!
